D&B 101

D&B 101 is a dictionary or guide to words and phrases used on the show.  WARNING: Use at your own risk.

Big Man on Big Man - The mantra for Dunaway and Brown first time callers. The phrase pays homage to its inventor, Lincoln Financial color analyst Dave Rowe.

Built By U Inbox- The E-Mail Inbox where we read comments from you.  You can always e-mail us at  theshow@DandBradio.com

Coyote Nunley- Former Alabama football player who may or may not have existed.  As legend has it, he worked on a cabbage truck

Don't Eat the Cheese- The media will build player/team up, only to tear them down.  Much like setting cheese in a mouse trap, only to snap the head off the rodent. Don't eat the cheese when the media is building you up.

Drinking the Kool-aid - Buying into something before it is reality

Franing It Up - This phrase is used when the head coach of a team appears to be headed for another job and his team plays as if that coach has been a bit pre-occupied with contract negotiations. This is in reference to the reports of Alabama’s practice for the 2002 Iron Bowl while Coach Fran had one foot in Tuscaloosa and one foot in College Station.

Geeked - Exited, energetic, pumped up

Going Gundy- The act of a coach exploding, like the 40 year old man Mike Gundy

Homer - A person who cheers for their team regardless of the circumstances

How the Sausage is Made - Favorite phrase the guys use to describe the dirty, behind the scene work that goes into making something good.  Everyone likes sausage, but they wouldn't if they went to the factory.

Humblelaya - Humility served "hot" to an over confident coach, player, or fan base

In the Barrel- Dunaway, on rare occasions, can be difficult to please. During that rare occurance, a member of the Dunaway and Brown staff will find that much of what they have done that day is “not up to Mr. Dunaway’s standards”. That show member is deemed to spending the day “in the barrel”.

In the White Jerseys - Just like any great SEC team, Dunaway and Brown wear the road whites when out of studio for remote broadcasts.

Jam Packed Phone Lines- A common occurrence on D&B. It’s the moment when all of the Dunaway and Brown phone lines have a caller on hold waiting to talk to the guys. Don’t be discouraged when you hear the phrase, keep calling 942-6900.

Jim or Not - This is a Dunaway and Brown original game in which the caller has to determine whether Jim is answering a question truthfully or making things up off the top of his head. Frequently Ryan and Blake will play the game during the course of the show when Jim says something so outrageous that they both feel as though he is trying to lead them astray.

Junior - Code for, "Hey Jim, I'm from Alabaster and I recognize the fact that you were once known as Junior

Key Jingling - This phrase was coined by Blake Ells to describe the process of a fan of one team pointing out the faults of his or her rival to take away the attention from their team’s own shortcomings. It is as if someone is jingling keys to garner the attention of a young child.

Milk-n-Cookies - The affectionate name callers use for Jim because of his clean cut image and perspective on life

Pat Dye-d - The action of firing a coach to lessen the penalties from NCAA Investigators

Pick 3 - Jim and Ryan do not allow any on-air bookmakers or prognosticators on D&B Radio.  The guys do allow you the fans to pick the games every football Friday.

Porter Bandwagoner - Fair Weather Fan that only cheers for a team when they are winning

Powder - Phrase coined by caller Chris in Inverness to describe Ryan's often pale complexion on television. This references popular film of the 1990's about an Albino man

Power Ballad Friday - A D&B Tradition started in the first year of the show.  Jim has a HUGE love of 80's Big Hair Bands.  The first Friday after the Final 4 to the last Friday before the start of the College Football Season, we play Big Hair Band Power Ballads as bump music.

Rebel Fox - The first girl to catch the eye of young Jim Dunaway. It is remembered as one of the great romances of the Keystone community of Alabaster.

Reversal - The On-Air word for Vomitting

The Lower Jim - This is Dunaway’s “man room” at his new home. It is a windowless room with three televisions and pennants from each SEC team. The room also has easy access to a refrigerator for beverage replenishment and a restroom for beverage disposal.

The Musket - At any mention of Rich Rodriguez or any West Virginia sport, you hear the firing of the musket. This became a part of the show during the 18-hour period that Rich Rodriguez was the head football coach at Alabama. West Virginia’s mascot has a musket that he fires at Mountaineer athletic events (even those indoors).

The NBC Chimes- In the original agreement between Citadel Broadcasting and NBC for the services of Dunaway, there were reports that Jim received royalties when the chimes were played at any mention of NBC or NBC programming. Those reports are still unconfirmed. Citadel Broadcasting and NBC do not comment on specific contractual obligations.
